Case Study - Colorado Court, Santa Monica

Colorado Court is a 44-unit affordable housing project in the city of Santa Monica.Completed in the Spring of 2002, it has qualified for a LEED Gold rating, one of the first buildings in the country to achieve the Gold standard in green building.

Colorado Court was built by the Community Corporation of Santa Monica, a non-profit housing developer, for the city of Santa Monica, as both a green building demonstration project and to fill a part of the city's need for more affordable housing. The 44 units are all single-room studios, with a car and bicycle parking area underneath. The building is located in downtown Santa Monica, five blocks from the beach, with several major bus lines stopping right in front.

Colorado Court has won numerous awards, including being chosen as one of the American Institute of Architects 2003 Top Ten Green Projects, and was nominated for the World Habitat Awards.
