In July 1982, National Public Radio dispatched a crew of three people to Lebanon including Marty Kurcias, current NPR's National Desk Producer, to report on the war. A month earlier, Israel had launched "Operation Peace for Galilee," crossing into Lebanon to root out the Palestine Liberation Organization and put a stop to the attacks on its border communities.
