Oliver's career has taken many turns.

Oliver is president and CEO of Integrated Business Solutions, a computer consulting firm with headquarters in San Ramon and branches in San Francisco, Sacramento, Chicago, and Washington D.C. A slim woman in her mid-'50s, Oliver dresses and moves with the flair of a diva, talking generously but reserving her deep laugh for the right occasions.

Oliver's career path has taken many turns. When she closed her store, the Boot Broker in Denver, Oliver worked for a variety of public transportation and utility agencies. Here she developed Minority/Women Business Enterprise, a series of programs that worked to increase salary contracts awarded to minority-owned firms. Recently, she also led a delegation of small business owners to Washington DC at the appointment of President Clinton.

In the meantime, however, her connection to hometown politics has changed.
