"Since I know that my ex-boyfriend is here, I know that I have to look my best and not fall on the ice. But it is so hard, because my skates are too small on the top and too big on the bottom. "

It's Friday, and my friends and I are once again trying to figure out what to do.

We sit at my house for about two hours contemplating and trying to figure out what to do.

Then, I get a phone call. It's my friend Nicole telling me that she is having an ice skating party.

It is finally decided. We are going ice skating. So, Bena, Rickesha, Nandra and I all hop in Bena's car for a night out to the ice skating rink by Sears in downtown Oakland.

“Seven dollars,” the ticket man says. Dang, that's hecka money, but we hesitantly pay anyway.

Rat Heads

So we walk to the corridor where we show the guard our stamped hands and he lets us pass. Then we are off to the skate rentals. We proceed to sit down and put our skates on, when Nandra says, “Look at those rat heads over there!”

We stop dead in our tracks to look over at the girls she is talking about.

“Ugh!” we all yell as we begin to laugh at the way they look. The reason that we find them so funny is because one of the girls' hair is all over the place and she has a gold tooth. Yuck. Then her friends are just really loud and super ghetto.

We finish everything, and we all stumble as we make our way to the ice. Luckily, none of us fall. We are all pretty much beginners. Then Blap! Rickesha falls on the ice really hard. That's it for her. She takes her skates off goes toward the exit of the rink. After that, we all plead for her to come back, but when we know that she won't, we say forget it and go on skating.

He's Here

“Shanita, look!” Rickesha says after I come off the ice for intermission.

“What?” I say, wondering what she wants. Paul, Demus, Colton, Dewey, Norris, Mike and Michael walk in the door and proceed to put their skates on.

“Dang! Why is Paul everywhere that I go?” I say to Rickesha.

“I don't know Nita,” she says back to me.

Paul is my ex-boyfriend, and while we see each other all the time, and we have friends that we both talk to all the time, we only speak to each other once in a blue moon. At one time we really did care for each other, but now...we still care but there is not hing there that has relationship or even friendship quality.

Since I know that my ex-boyfriend is here, I know that I have to look my best and not fall on the ice. But it is so hard, because my skates are too small on the top and too big on the bottom. But thinking that I am bad, I skate as best as I can anyway.

I try and try my hardest, but with all those people skating around me almost make me fall. I don't think that I am going to make it through the night.

Kerplump! Paul falls on the ice right in front of me. I know that he is embarrassed because his face is the color of blood now. He knows that I am going to laugh, which I do. It is so funny.

At ten o'clock, the night of skating is finally over. We have to pry Bena off the ice because she does not want to leave. Paul doesn't even say goodbye, which I expected. But hey, I got my laugh of the night, so it really doesn't matter.
