Peter
Lemieux
In 1993, upon earning his BA from
Duke University, Peter Lemieux received a graduation gift that changed
the course of his life – a summer apprenticeship with Winston Allen, a
professional photographer from New Hampshire. That same year, Peter embarked
on a yearlong journey through Latin America, during which he photographed
human rights demonstrations in Ecuador, religious celebrations in Bolivia,
and animal markets in Guatemala. Peter’s passion for black-and-white photography
has not dimmed since. Currently, Peter is a second year MBA student at
the Haas School of Business. He is exploring social venture opportunities
in the field of documentary photography and doing coursework in Berkeley’s
School of Journalism and Visual Studies Program. Earlier this year, Peter
was awarded the Dorothea Lange Fellowship for his project documenting
the lives of Latino migrant workers in San Francisco’s Mission District.

an antique 35 mm SLR and ignited her photography fire. She also thanks
her father, who shelled out "mucho dinero" for her personal equipment.
Currently, Rachelle is working on two documentary projects, Family

Jerome
Nakagawa
Jerome
Nakagawa is a student of Political Science at the University of California
at Berkeley. He learned the craft of photography from his father at a
very young age, and he continues to study under the tutilage of established
independent photographers: Emily Nakayama, Mark Silva, Sophia Eng, Todd
Nakagawa, and Candice Nowell. He has had his work exhibited at Romeo5,
a San Francisco art gallery, and is also a staff photographer with The
Daily Californian, U.C. Berkeley's student-run newspaper. He attributes
all of his good fortune in photography to the support and strength his
mother, Laneida, has given him. It is she that has shown him that there
is nothing more courageous than raising a child on one's own, and in comparison,
the trials and tribulations of photojournalism is nothing at all.
