Breaking New Ground

Our show this week is all about breaking new ground—in the job market.

Reporter Annie Berman talks to the practitioner of an emerging profession: end-of-life doulas. They’re trained to provide spiritual and emotional care to dying people.

Reporter Carla Williams digs into the thorny question of diversity in the tech industry. Companies like Apple and Intel have spent millions of dollars on initiatives meant to increase the number of people of color and women in the industry. But, has it worked?

Finally, reporter Ashvini Malshe brings us the story Khabar Lahariya, an online publication run by lower caste, rural women in Northern India. They’re challenging traditional gender and class norms as they tell the stories of the community from their perspective.
