Cleaning up Oakland
City Manager Robert Bobb has a plan to fight crime and grime.

June Ballot Initiatives
Initiatives can be placed on the ballot by citizens and legislators. When an initiative's sponsor collects 433,269 signatures in support of his/her proposal, it will get a number and will be placed on the ballot. Initiative becomes law when voters approve it.

The Candidates
Eleven people want to be the next mayor of Oakland; and some have no background in politics. Without the name recognition of Jerry Brown or the exposure of city council member Ignacio De La Fuente, these candidates — Edward Blakely and Audery Rice Oliver — will have to build their own on-ramps into the fast lane of a closely observed mayoral race.
