For the youth of Chinatown, it is a very different situation. Many of its children, adolescents, and young adults are born in the United States and are being raised bi-culturally. Whereas the older generations tend to look inward as a means of living, the youth of Chinatown must find a workable balance between their strong Chinese heritage and American culture. For the most part, adolescents no longer spend their time socially in Chinatown, opting instead to drive or bus to neighboring suburban parts of San Francisco or the Bay Area to be with friends.
When they are in the area having fun, athletics is the recreation of choice. The Chinatown Community Center or the YMCA is where most of the youth can be found.
