HIV is a chronic disease, responsible for the slow death of more than nineteen thousand people each year in the US alone. In 1995, during the peak of the crisis, AIDs killed more than sixty thousand a year. Reporter Nathaniel Mahowald brings us stories from one family in Chicago to remind us of the long history of this deadly disease.
