Dhol Rhythms Dance Company

Dhol Rhythms Dance Company is a diverse, all-female dance troupe based in Berkeley. They specialize in the traditional folk dance called Bhangra, which is native to Punjab, a Northern state in India. It is usually danced by men. Known for the electric energy it creates among crowds of enthused individuals, Dhol Rhythms’ mission is to bring Bhangra and Punjabi culture to the Bay. And, as an intentionally all-female group, they desire to create a safe space for women of all backgrounds to dance and feel joy.

One of the company’s co-founders, Vicki Virk, is a native of Punjab but has lived in the Bay since she was young. She didn’t train professionally as a dancer, but has danced all throughout her life. Bhangra is close to her heart, and through teaching community classes and performing around the Bay, she hopes to share a vital part of her life.
