Nate Smith had run a coffee shop at Perkins and Grand in Oakland’s Adams Point neighborhood for over 15 years. Coffee With a Beat was the place to get a hot cup of coffee and engage in a lively discussion about the news of the day. But now, coffee lovers and debate enthusiasts in the neighborhood have to go somewhere else after a new landlord cleared out all of the businesses in the building.
