Khabar Lahariya: Rural, lower caste women change traditional roles

The reporters of the online publication Khabar Lahariya are female, lower caste, and from rural Northern India. These are three ways in which they are marginalized. But, they refuse to accept their fates. Through digital journalism, they’ve found a way to tell the stories of women like them and gain recognition across the world for it. They face many obstacles: low cellphone access, domestic violence, and financial instability being among them. Yet, they’re determined to change what is traditionally expected from women like them. Change is slow, but it’s noticeable, and it’s turning heads.
