Real-life Rodents of Unusual Size

In the last century, California’s wetland areas have decreased by more than ninety percent. Now the small portion that remains is under attack.

Reporter Francesca Fenzi takes us to the Central Valley, where biologist Greg Gerstenberg has been fighting a prolific pest with an appetite for destruction. Giant swamp rats, called Nutria, have invaded the California wetlands — devouring vegetation and threatening the state’s forty-five billion dollar agricultural industry.
