Unsolved Murders Across the Bay Area

The city of Oakland annually records by far the highest number of homicides in the East Bay region, with a total of 128 murders between January, 1998 and October 13, 1999. The names, dates, and circumstances of the 57 murder cases still open and unsolved in Oakland -- like Lisa Norrell’s in Pittsburg -- are listed below. This information is provided courtesy of the Oakland Police Homicide Division. Anyone with information about any of these cases is urged to phone the division at (510) 238-3821.

Berkeley Homicides: 1998-1999

Anyone with information about these unsolved homicides is urged to call the Homicide Division of Berkeley Police at (510) 644-6839.

Unsolved 1998

1. The one unsolved is "one of the ones we don't like to get,” said Berkeley Homicide Detective Joe Sanchez.

Victim: Richard Devenchi, age 37, December 17, 1998 between 19-22nd St. Richard Devecchi run down by an American car. Driver suspected is African-American male in mid 30's Partial license of the vehicle, was obtained but there are hundreds of variations, thousands of variation. There is very little else to go on for this case.

Solved 1998

1. Anthony Durant, 1549 Oregon Street, shot, 33 (Michael Clark, arrested and accused of the murder).

2. Anthony Reyna, shot in front of 2019 8th St., 30s (outstanding warrant for person, won’t release name).


Unsolved 1999

None

Solved 1999

1. Sir Dante Peaker, shot, 2920 Otis Street Berkeley, 19-years-old (won’t release name of accused).


Richmond Homicides

According to the Homicide Division of the Richmond Police Department, the city had 18 homicides in 1998, 28 thus far in 1999. All of the 1998 cases are closed, although some remain unsolved. The Homicide Division declined to report the number of 1998 unsolved cases that were closed, the number of 1999 homicides still under investigation, the names, dates or circumstances of any of these crimes.


San Francisco Homicides

The Homicide Division of the San Francisco Police Department declined to release the names, dates, or circumstances of murders currently under investigation. According to a division spokesperson, however, 26 of 53 homicides in 1998 remain under investigation; 24 of 52 homicides occurring so far in 1999 remain under investigation.
